It’s the story of a female marine (Laysla De Oliveira) recruited by the CIA for an anti-terrorism op that goes wrong. This star-studded thriller series sets out to be another Homeland but with bigger guns. From there he meets up with a nephew of notorious drugs kingpin Pablo Escobar, before heading deep into the jungle with a heavily armed anti-narcotics squad to find out how cocaine is actually produced. Travelling from the capital Bogota to the former cartel stronghold of Medellín, he concludes that a night out in the latter is now “no worse than going out in Grimsby” despite being offered cocaine on every corner. (If you think the waterboarding is grim, just wait until later when he tests out a bullet-proof jacket by getting shot). For one thing he wasn’t permitted to film without having armed guards to protect him and, also, undertaking brutal anti-kidnapping training. Martin takes to the streets and jungles of Colombia to see whether this beautiful and hugely biodiverse country can escape its recent history of drugs and extreme violence.
